Warm Hearts campaign for East Westwood Youth

KEEP KIDS SAFE AND WARM!

There is a specail place for youngsters in East Westwood--the East Westwood Youth Center on McHenry Avenue.

As many as 120 young people of all ages have visited in a single day.  There are basketball hoops, computers available under adult supervision, and a safe and friendly home-away-from for children and youth.  During the school year, tutors come from points all over Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky to help with homework, and in the summer there is a weekly reading program.

In a neighborhood where many families live below the federal poverty line, and the streets can be dangerous, the Youth Center is a haven for young people.

A small band of adults with roots in the neighborhood keeps the Youth Center open.  They server as role models, coaches and mentors to children and youth, day in and day out.

15 years ago, the Third Presbyterian Church, about to close as its congregation dwindeled, opened its basement to the East Westwood Youth Council.  Today, the Youth Center's doors are still open.  But the building and parts of its infrastructure are in dire state of deterioration. Heating bills are out of control.

The WARM HEARTS campaign seeks not just to defray bills but to make improvements so that the building can be heated in a "greener",  more environmentally-friendly way, and waste less fuel.

Your contribution can make the difference to KEEP A WARM, SAFE PLACE OPEN FOR CHILDREN.
